This is a simultaneous equation.
2x - 6y = - 2 ----------------- equ (1)
         y= x - 2 ---------------- equ (2)
Now substitute y in equation (1) this will become
2x - 6 (x - 2)= -2

2x - 6x + 12 = -2
Now collect like terms
2x - 6x = -2 - 12
-4x = -14
x = 14/4
x= 7/2
x= 3 1/2

 if y= x - 2
y= 3 1/2 - 2
y= 7/2 - 2
then y = 3/2

The answer to your question is x = 7/2 or 3 1/2  and y = 3/2 or 1 1/2

2x-6y=2 (equation 1) and y=x-2(equation2) and we are being give the value of y in equation 2 which is x-2 so we substitute equation 2 in equation one, ie, anywhere we see y, we replace it with x-2,   .2x-6(x-2)=2, we work it out and remove the bracket,ie,2x-6x+12=2, then we collect like terms, 12-2=-2+6.which is equal to 4x=10,making x the subject of the formula, we have x=2/5or 2.5, then we have known the value of x which equals 2,5, we substitute that in equation 1,we will have,Y=2.5-2=0.5,therefore x=2.5 and y=0.5

@ sir confidence, i think you got the question wrongly. The question is 2x - 6y= -2 which is the first equation and not 2x - 6y= 2. While the second equation is y= x - 2.

Yeah!,exactly,I made a mistake with the equations,you are right then, the answers are X=3.5or 7/2 and Y=3/2 or 1.5
