Google honors Cassini spacecraft with a Google Doodle

The Cassini spacecraft is going where no ship has gone before: On Wednesday, it begins a series of dives into the space between Saturn and its magnificent rings. The maneuver — a series of 22 orbits that will bring Cassini increasingly closer to Saturn’s surface before crashing into it — is called the spacecraft’s “grand finale.” And to mark this final journey, Cassini is being honored with a Google Doodle.

Over its last 13 years in orbit, Cassini has had an amazing run studying Saturn and its moons.

The fly through Saturn's rings is part of the last phase of Cassini's mission.
Dwindling fuel reserves mean NASA will crash the craft into the planet - rather than risking any biological contamination of Saturn's moons by depositing it there.
Diving between Saturn's rings started on April 26 and the little spaceship will be taking pictures of whatever it can as it passes through the giant sheets of icy debris.

And as it flies through, it will crash into saturn as shown below
